European Commission Hosts 4th Steering Group Meeting
CIIP partners concluded fiscal year 2015 with their 4th Steering Committee Meeting held in Brussels on June 30, 2015. It was co-chaired by the European Commission and the World Bank Group (WBG) and attended by representatives of all donor partners accept for the ACP representative who could not join the meeting.
The CIIP approach is seen as very relevant and central to all of CIIP partners’ strategy in private sector development. The EC sees clear linkages with the EU Communication "A Stronger Role of the Private Sector in Achieving Inclusive and Sustainable Growth in Developing Countries". The Swiss underlined the synergies of CIIP with their new 2017-20 strategy. The Austrians also highlighted that their development cooperation aid will continue to focus on private sector development. Norway also views CIIP as supporting the country's private sector development strategy. Finally, WBG highlighted the relevance of CIIP for its Trade and Competitiveness Global Practice which houses the program.
During the meeting, the WBG presented results of the program's main knowledge products. The competitive cities work (soon to be published) is seen as the main break-through of the year. The CIIP second Annual Conference was considered a clear success, with over 700 attendees and participation of many renowned academics. The analysis on Pemandu as a delivery unit, was widely recognized as very topical and relevant.
At the meeting CIIP partners also discussed how to best leverage both the visible project-level results as well as the wealth of knowledge generated by CIIP's knowledge and learning activities and products. At the meeting, the CIIP 2014-2015 Annual Report was adopted. The 2016 Business plan and FY16 objectives were also discussed and agreed upon. The meeting concluded with agreement by all partners to hold the fifth CIIP Steering Committee in late spring 2016, in a location to be decided.
